Mia Boysen
Mia Boysen (*1985 in Johannesburg) studied at the Wits School of the Arts and completed her postgraduate studies at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne in 2013. Her photographic work explores how reality is constructed through display and staging, questioning the boundary between truth and representation. In earlier works, she shifts focus away from objects themselves toward their presentation, often removing the objects to emphasize the display as the central element. The series “Rostock Ritz” (2016) connects this approach to historical references to Namibia’s diamond rush, combining constructed image settings with an intuitive development of motifs. The “Salt Display” (2027) series continues this dual approach, balancing carefully staged surfaces and forms with found situations that are sometimes used without artistic intervention.
